Philosophy Examples for Students

One rainy afternoon, Liam and Zara stayed late after Mr. Alden’s philosophy class. The lesson had been about choices—If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it, does it make a sound? Zara rolled her eyes, but Liam couldn’t stop thinking about it.

As they packed up, Liam noticed something strange—a door at the back of the classroom that he had never seen before.

Hey, Zara… was that door always there? he asked.

She frowned. No way. That’s just a supply closet.

But when Liam touched the handle, a cold shiver ran down his spine. Mr. Alden suddenly appeared behind them, his usual smile gone.

Some doors, he said quietly, should never be opened.

The Choice

That night, Liam couldn’t sleep. What was behind the door? A prank? A secret? He texted Zara.

What if the door isn’t real unless we open it?

Zara replied: You’ve been reading too much philosophy. Go to sleep.

But the next day, they found the door again—this time, slightly ajar. A faint blue light glowed from inside.

This is crazy, Zara whispered. But… what if Mr. Alden’s hiding something?

Liam took a deep breath. What if this is a test? Like those old philosophy questions—do things exist if we don’t see them?

Before Zara could argue, Liam pushed the door open.

The Truth

Instead of a closet, they stepped into a vast, starry void. A figure stood in the distance—the Stranger, dressed in black, watching them.

Every choice, the Stranger said, creates a new world. You wanted answers. Now you must choose: stay and learn the truth, or return and forget everything.

Zara grabbed Liam’s arm. This isn’t real. Maybe we’re dreaming!"

But Mr. Alden’s voice echoed around them: Reality is what you believe it to be.

The Lesson

Liam realized—this wasn’t just a door. It was a test of curiosity, fear, and belief.

He looked at Zara. "What if… we close the door and pretend this never happened?"

She nodded. Then it’ll just be another weird story.

As they stepped back, the door slammed shut behind them—and vanished.

The next day, the classroom was normal. Mr. Alden smiled. Today’s topic: How do we know what’s real?

Liam and Zara exchanged a glance. Some questions had no answers… or maybe, the answers were all around them.

The End.
